Straw Sandals (click here)The Kagato Church in Japan is is one of the oldest. It was started more than a 100 years ago. The church went through hardships and had to endure much persecution, but they tell wonderful stories of how God worked among them. At the very beginning of the Church’s existence, one of the believers made a tremendous impression by his unique way of witnessing for God. He would go out wearing zoori (rice straw sandals) on his head and two mugiwarabooshi (barley straw hats) on his feet. From house to house he went distributing Christian literature, wearing his shoes on his head and two hats on his feet. “The world we live in is completely upside down!” he would say, giving them literature and urging them to change their lifestyle and live right side up. If he said that almost a 100 years ago, I wonder what he would have said of the world we live in today! “Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.” Gen 6:5 Because the world we live in is in such a terrible state, may the Lord help us to ” … cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.” Living right-side up in an upside down world!
