Short-Term Outreach:

We welcome short-term volunteers!

Helping churches reach their communities for Christ is a core purpose of Japan Mission. There is a great need in Japan and the laborers are few. We have seen first hand how volunteers can help us make a great difference and be an encouragement to all involved. However, to ensure that we are meeting actual needs within the Japanese community and are genuinely a blessing to those we work with, we are very careful not to simply arrange activities just to fill a schedule for a short term missions outreach.

TWO PARTS ONE PICTURE

Even if there is a team with exceptional gifting and a heart to serve, we see this as only one part of the picture. For short term missions to truly be effective, activities must also meet a genuine need in the community. When the Lord brings together the heart to serve to meet the genuine need within a community, we can truly be a blessing. For these two parts of the picture to come together prayer and guidance from the Lord is essential.

FIRST TIMERS: For teams or individuals who seek to join us for the first time; even if specific ministry opportunities do not materialize, we encourage you to come for several days and see what kinds of ministry we are involved in and shadow some of the full time missionaries here.

FIRST TIME ARRANGEMENT

  • 2-5 day stay (Depending on the circumstances)
  • Visit and shadow some of what we do
  • Connect for possible future work together
  • Seek Lord on His leading for you personally

COSTS: Each team or individual would need to cover the full cost of their airfare, food, transportation, etc… during their time at Japan Mission. Depending on the availability of the guests rooms here, teams / individuals can stay free of charge.

OUTREACH TO TOYAMA (PAST OUTREACH)

Example of a team of mostly volunteers who traveled to Toyama City, which is a city of 400,000 people with very few churches in rural Japan. This startup church was founded with the vision to reach young people and was located across from Toyama University, with about 5,000 students. The team was able to help the church raise funds, develop advertising, make a promotional video and build a website. These things continued to help this church after the short-term outreach ended. The team also helped the church by distributing literature, teaching English Conversation, setting up a fellowship area with refreshments and sharing the Word. It was a great encouragement for all involved.
